It is with great sadness that we observe the passing of Jan Shangraw this past Saturday, January 1, 2011 from complications relating
to her battle with Acute Leukemia.

SHANGRAW, Mary Janice Bonacker, of Sun City Center, Fla., went to be with the Lord January 1, 2011. She was the daughter of Adam and Celanire Bonacker and was born in Albany, N.Y. She graduated from St. John' s Academy in Rensselaer, N.Y., and the College of St. Rose in Albany, with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. After marriage to her college sweetheart, Robert Shangraw, they lived in Norfolk, Va., during his U.S. Navy career. Following his discharge from the Navy, they initially moved to Warehouse Point, Conn., and then lived in East Granby, Conn., for 41 years. During those years, Jan was totally involved in the recovery room at Hartford Hospital and also in her children' s youth activities. She was Cub Scout den mother for four years, then a junior Girl Scout leader for another four years. Bob and Jan moved to Sun City Center, Fla., in 1999. Jan was a community leader, president of the Sun City Center R.N. club, active in Prince of Peace Catholic women' s organization, women' s chorus, food pantry, and security patrol. Jan is survived by her husband and very best friend of 56 years, Robert D. Shangraw; three sons, Robert E. (Patricia) from Tualatin, Ore., Timothy C. (Janet) from Littleton, Colo., and Michael D. (Barbara) from San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and two daughters, Vicki S. (Joseph) Kvedar from Lynnfield, Mass., and Kathi S. Cotugno from Westfield, Mass. Her life centered around her 13 grandchildren, Kirsten, Sarah, and Kathleen Shangraw, David and Emily Shangraw, Matthew, Celanire and Rachel Shangraw, Derek, Julie and Megan Kvedar, and Adam and Joshua Cotugno. She is also survived by her sister, Helen (Anthony) Iacoponi; brother-in-law, Robert Jordan; sister-in-law, Sally Shangraw; cousin, Lorraine (Harvey) Bailey; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Thursday, January 6,

2011, at Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center. Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center or Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

In Memory Of Thaddeus Wendell

Thaddeus W. Wendell, 85, of West Simsbury, beloved husband of Jane (Gryszkiewicz) Wendell, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at home. He was born March 22, 1925 in Westfield, MA, son of the late Joseph and Antonina (Wichrowski) Wojtkiewicz.
Thaddeus was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees 122nd Battalion in the Pacific Theater and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Wendell was a Machinist and Inspector at Dell Manufacturing Co. prior to his retirement in 1991. Thaddeus was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Simsbury, Simsbury Grange #197 and the Cawasa Grange #34. He was also a Boy Scout Leader in Westfield, MA, Longmeadow, MA and continued in Connecticut when he moved in 1968 to Simsbury. The love of camping followed throughout his family life across the country.
Besides his wife, he leaves his three daughters, Anita Brucker and husband Gene of Granby, Laura Taylor and husband Edward of Missoula, MT and Nancy Krause and husband Jeffery of Torrington; three grandchildren, Cristin and her husband Ryan, Carolyn and Jesse; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Frank who perished on the USS Arizona in the attack on Pearl Harbor, his brothers, Stanley, Matthew and Robert and his sisters, Bernice Scougall and Cecilia Shamatovich and his grandson, Jeb.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Monday, April 26th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 27th, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury. Burial with military honors will be in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, CT 06092 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
